Grey Gardens

Grey Gardens

Yesterday was a lovely Saturday afternoon spent doing some of my favorite things.

1. Rearranging furniture (It pleases me to no end when you can instantly reinvent the space you live in. It also sets in motion a vacuuming spell which I enjoy but don't do nearly enough.)

2. Listening to music (Kind of goes hand in hand with #1. and is essential to productivity)

3. Baking cookies (because why not?)

4. Watching a movie (We had a screening of Grey Gardens with some of our HBO challenged friends. More on that below..)

5. Eating Nachos (I may have mentioned this before but I consider nachos the perfect snack. Cheese melted on chips? Yes, Pleeease.)

I didn't really know what to expect with Grey Gardens. As we know, I love a good fashion- related flick, and I had heard many praises of this one, including that Drew Barrymore was so committed to the role that she promised to learn how to kick her habit of speaking out of the side of her mouth. Which I am happy to report she didn't do at all and then some. She was completely transformed and I found the whole thing to be divine (which is a word I have since incorporated heavily into my vocabulary). The production design was stunning, eerie and spot on. The costumes and special effects makeup had me transfixed (how did they make her arms so crepey?) The performances, amazing. I even loved Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jackie O. I am not a connoisseur of the original Grey Gardens but I think this one did a pretty good job of a remake. Oh, HBO, you always give me reason to keep paying that stupidly high cable bill each month.
