I would like to share with you my no fail diet technique I have been employing as of late. Before you eat something say to yourself, "No one ever got fat from eating too many______" and then insert the item you are about to consume. If it rings true, forge ahead. If it doesn't sound believable proceed with caution. Strawberries, yes. Donuts, no. Fish Tacos, sure. Buttermilk biscuits, eehhhh.. thin ice. That being said I have consumed all the things listed. The beauty of it is the sentence technique creates room for those little things that you might feel guilty about but shouldn't. Like i don't really think anyone ever got fat from eating lots of butter on whole wheat bread every now and again, or having half and half in their coffee, for instance. So lets stop saying things like butter, cream and fresh fruit pies are guilty pleasures. Deal? Also, no one ever got fat from eating a snickers bar every single night for 2 months straight, right? Am I right? One that definitely rings true is the meal I prepared for myself the other night. Halibut with hibiscus salt, baby potatoes, steamed artichoke with lemon butter, definitely delicious- and not guilty in the least.

My Fourth of July Weekend

Ok I am slowly trying to come back from my blogging hiatus. Here's some snaps from my lovely weekend up on the Nowrth Showa, as they say. Fresh blackberries from my dad's yard- a new favorite haunt of my city dwelling dogs. They absolutely loved sniffing the fresh air and as you can see didn't leave each other's sides the entire trip. Swimming was at the top of my list, but apparently the ocean didn't get the memo and decided to stay at arctic temperatures. I finally took a much needed dunk in one of my very favorite places on this earth. AHHH quarries!

I swear Ill return to normal blogging shortly. I was at the most extraordinary wedding this weekend and I am still recovering. My friend who got married is one of those people who thinks of every last thing and does it tastefully. So this is my ode to her. Look at the salad she made for us recently. My original recipe made it to the top two for the buffalo mozzarella contest! The post below is my version, and see theirs above. Now is the time when the public can vote: so go here and cast your vote! At stake: a gift certificate from Whole Foods so I can cook up more summer delights to share with you!

( Just between you and me, the mere fact that Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs even made a recipe I came up with was enough to make me squeal with delight! eeeee!)

Pssst.. check out the video too!

One of my favorite foodie websites Food52, is conducting a contest this week for Best Mozzarella recipe and seeing as I just got a nice big hunk of locally made stuff I figured I'd try and enter. Mine is a very simple recipe that all cooks can do and it yields delicious results, keeping the cheese the star of the show. So, go on over and check it out, and if you like it, click on the thumbs up (unfortunately that doesn't make me win but it ups my chances and makes me smile). Ill keep you updated if I make it to the finals!

Today was an eventful day in the neighborhood. In addition to the usual saturday festivities of brunching and farmer's marketing, there was world cupping. Which not only meant drunkenly piling into crowded bars for some, but taking to the streets and kicking a ball around like a band of freewheeling grade schoolers for others. In unrelated new there was also naked bike riding. Im telling you- eventful. I, as usual partook in none of it (well, except the farmers marketing). And these pictures weren't even taken today so not sure really why I just told you all that? But hey, pretty sky pics!
