Fork Carpet

To say that I have been neglecting the old blog recently is a bit of an understatement. I have realized that when you don't have hours to browse the internet at an office job, it is hard to carve out time for blog inspiration. But recently I have been able to get back into it a little and was pleased to see that there is a bevy of creative stuff going on out there. We Make Carpets created this amazing installation of plastic forks, I can't help but wonder where you get forks in these pastel shades. Kinda makes me want ice cream for some reason.

Collections

I have tried desperately to deny my "pack rat"-edness, but when it comes down to it, I just like stuff. I always have. There I said it. When I was little I used to go to the beach and fill my pockets with rocks, simply because each one seemed to be more beautiful than the next. I couldn't seem to leave without amassing a collection full of different textures and colors. I guess my mom should have know at that point that I had the shopoholic gene. This is also why I absolutely love collections of any sort. Carefully curated groupings of things just really does it for me. So I was especially taken with these photos by Anja Mulder, spotted on Darling Dexter.

Cardboard castle

One of my favorite things to do when I was a little girl was make rocket ships and houses out of cardboard boxes. Its economical and utilizes your imagination. I'm happy to see this game hasn't gone out of style, my niece is a fan of fun with boxes as well, and this cardboard castle really takes it to a whole new level. Found on Kris's Color stripes via This is Glamorous .

Earth Day: moss

Happy Earth Day! I love these moss art/ graffiti pieces that are placed in city settings by Edina Tokodi. They are mostly around Williamsburg, I wish I had spotted some of these in person! More here.

So, what are you doing in honor of Earth Day?

Pothole gardens

I am a big fan of these types of senseless acts of beauty. Artist Pete Dungey starting planting pothole gardens as a sort of comment on the disrepair of Britain's roads. I can relate, so can the cabbie who complained about New York City roads for my entire trip the other day...

Rome

Happy New Year! I'm home from my little jaunt in Roma, and looking back on my pictures, it strikes me how beautiful everything was there. One of my favorite stops was the Villa Farnesina  where our friend and tour guide explained that to the Romans, too much is never enough, decor meant lotsa stuff on stuff as a way to delight the human eye. My kinda place. Gilded ceilings, ornate sculptures, it was all symmetry and mastery... consider my eye overjoyed!
