Hotel Delos France

Finally a Hotel that embraces color and good design details! No if only I could find my way to the Ile de Bendor in France...

Inspiring Bathrooms

The Selby

ELLE Decor

Like I said in the last post, it has been sweltering in the ol' NYC, but finally we've caught a break. For awhile there, every time I left the house all I wanted to do was find a place to swim. I saw the top picture on The Selby and started day dreaming about taking an outdoor shower on Martha's Vineyard. Here it comes: my summer wanderlust, beach edition.

Kitchen pantries

While skimming through a sneak peek on Design Sponge the other day, I spied this amazing pantry on and had major house envy. What is it about a well stocked pantry that sparks my thirst for a giant kitchen and tons of mason jars? Best of all, a great pantry like this really inspires you to cook and eat healthfully. I love the fact that there is nary a prepackaged item in sight. No microwave popcorn or Chips Ahoy, and no plastic wrapping, now thats a pantry anyone would be proud to show off. If you have been watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution or are aware of how much plastic we uselessly consume, then you know what I mean.

Blue chairs

House Beautiful is doing some thing where they leave blue chairs on the street on a "finders keepers" basis. I'm not really sure what it is promoting but I'm into it.

Thumbtacks

Right next to my desk at home I have an giant bulletin board. I have it so I can tack up little pictures or things like excite me at any given time. Thing is, I never use it. It has had the same 5 photos, a Paris map and a cable bill posted up there for the almost an entire year. So my new years resolution is to get inspired enough to use my inspiration board so it can further inspire me.

Wine cellar

In the spirit of impossible and over the top home projects, check out this wine cellar. Given the time that my boyfriend spends in wineshops, with this in our house he may disappear through the kitchen floor never to be seen again. Not to mention the fact that we don't even have a basement, perhaps our downstairs neighbors wouldn't mind?

(Psst ...for other cool home renovations that are more down to earth, check out my current obsession: a blog where a young couple DIY everything in their first home: Young House Love.)

Hamptons kitchen

Holy cow. I want this kitchen! From the farmhouse table right down to the oven knobs. If only it were possible to jump right into an Elle Decor and live there for a bit. (January 2010 edition in case you were wondering) And lets not even talk about the dressing room:

Holiday Decorations

This year I tried to be budget friendly and make decorations from things around the apartment or vintage items that didn't cost too much. I found old christmas bulbs on etsy and they arrived in the most beautiful old Woolworths boxes I could barely part with them. The icicles are from Anthropologie, then I filled in the rest of the tree with old rusty keys I found, and chandelier crystals from eBay ( loved the crystals so much I even made earrings out of the leftovers. I made an origami star with some of the urban outfitters catalogs that seem to pile up month after month, despite my best efforts to cancel them. The 3-D snowflakes are very easy to make. All you need is some printer paper, a glue slick and a stapler.

I had my heart set on tapered candlesticks but forgot I don't have enough candle holders so I made do with leftover Miller High Life bottles. Didn't even peel off the gold label because it went with my theme! I found some stripped branches in the floral district, stuck them in a vase with some black eyed peas to steady them, and voila: center piece!

The egg nog trifle is a concoction that I made up on a whim but I am working on making it into a recipe and will try to post soon. It was made from layers of brandy soaked panettone and eggnog custard and was yummy.

Now the only thing left to do is put on some festive tunes. I prefer to mix in a few non christmas songs so you get a little break. Listen along here. icon
