Advanced style

Have you heard of this blog, Advanced Style? It is the Senior citizens answer to the Sartorialist, (photo'd by a youngster of course) and I love it. Check out 98 year old rose's style tips:

  1. Find your perfect perfume, people will remember you by your scent. Rose is known for her Pauline Trigere fragrance. She tells her granddaughter "I'll give you anything in the world, but I won't give you my perfume."
  2. Belts and Beads. Rose believes that a belt or unique strand of beads can really make an outfit and they don't have to cost a fortune.
  3. Take care of your feet and wear good shoes, but when you are going out for a night on the town "Fashion comes before comfort" At 98, Rose goes out every single night!
  4. "Walking is a must, its better than doctors or medicine"
  5. No need to use expensive moisturizers, Rose swears by Oil of Olay which she has been using for decades.
  6. "Inexpensive lipstick is as good as expensive, only better!" Rose has tried every brand from Chanel to Lauder and has recently been turned on to Revlon.
  7. Be Unique: "If Everyone is wearing it, then its not for me"
  8. "Be smart enough to know what you don't know"
  9. If you have trouble reading the dinner menu, Lorgnettes are a fashionable and elegant alternative to reading glasses
  10. "Be Happy, enjoy what you have at every moment!"

Beyonce- "Why Dont You Love me"

"Why Don't You Love Me" - Beyoncé from Beyoncé on Vimeo.

I have always had a Beyonce weakness, I have been known to listen to Irreplaceable on repeat, and maintain that Freakum Dress and Get Me Bodied are some of the best workout hits in recent history. So I was thrilled to see this new jam is out, and the video had me floored. I absolutely love the styling and production design!

Personal style- pops of color

Whenever I get downtrodden about my wardrobe I just take a trip over to The Sartorialist and I am reminded, it is not about the clothes you own, it is how you put them together.  Or rather, invest in a really great colorful scarf and then get creative. How fabulous are these fashion week attendees? (I love Refinery 29's Step by Step guide to being shot by The Sartorialist. Funny and accurate!)

Suno

One of the things I dislike most about winter is come January its really hard to find any enthusiasm about getting dressed in the morning. New York has been cold and wet for what seems like forever, and fashion tends to fall by the wayside when all you can think about is staying warm and dry. Therefore it really impresses me when people can wear or design winter clothes with some color and optimism. One of Refinery 29's rising stars of fashion week this season was a line called Suno, which I had never had heard of but am instantly loving the eclectic and islandy style. And their winter collection really appeals to my inner Pippi Longstocking.
