30 before 30- Update

A little update on my 30 before 30 list. Truth be told I am not making the best progress. I have 21 days left and I can only really cross 5 off of my list. The starred ones are still kinda doable.

I'd be lying if I didnt tell you that it has been a pretty rough year, as could probably be deduced by all the missing posts on my blog. I even forgot to celebrate my New York anniversary this year. It was five years on October 5th and I didnt do anything new to celebrate this fair city. I had a pretty great summer though. I had some girly beach excursions, saw a handful of awesome open air concerts and tackled that tricky lobster cooking thing!

Heirloom tomatoes

Stuffed. Baked. Tomatoes. from Happyolks on Vimeo.

So many celebrations of tomatoes have been catching my eye recently. And not just as a salad type of deal, but with this humble ingredient stepping up to the plate as the main event!

Get the recipe for Heirloom Tomato, Rice and Almond Tart here, the Scalloped Tomatoes with Crutons is Smitten Kitchen, and the cute and appetizing vid is from Happyolks! Or think up your own recipe and enter it here. May you have as much luck as I did!

My Fourth of July Weekend

Ok  I am slowly trying to come back from my blogging hiatus. Here's some snaps from my lovely weekend up on the Nowrth Showa, as they say. Fresh blackberries from my dad's yard- a new favorite haunt of my city dwelling dogs. They absolutely loved sniffing the fresh air and as you can see didn't leave each other's sides the entire trip. Swimming was at the top of my list, but apparently the ocean didn't get the memo and decided to stay at arctic temperatures. I finally took a much needed dunk in one of my very favorite places on this earth. AHHH quarries!

Watermelon salad

Here's another salad I crave from mid-May all the way through August: Watermelon salad with feta, mint parsley and kalamata olives. Add drizzle of olive oil, lemon juice, and thinly sliced red onion if you desire, and presto! You have got a refreshing snack that for picnics and cookouts that will yield zero leftovers, guaranteed. Oh and heres some summer music icon for ya. Love it!

Steven Alan

I have said in the past that I want a boyfriend that I could just dress up in Steven Alan 100% of the time. Whenever I go in the store I become completely enamored with the stacks of cozy, washed men's shirting. They just have a knack for that casual, yet work appropriate, hunky guy attire. Well, I am happy to announce that there is finally some cute stuff for the ladies as well. And have you ever seen a laptop bag as chic as this? LOVE!

Curried chicken salad

Everyone has that one dish that always reminds them of home, and for some reason for me, it is my mom's curried chicken salad. It immediately brings to mind sunny picnics and lemonade. I don't know where the recipe originally came from, but this is one of my mom's old standards that I love to make a big batch of and snack on all day long. Get the full recipe here.
