Road Trip

This week I embarked on a little jaunt from Chicago back to NYC via Volkswagen. I love road trips and it doesn't take much to get me to agree to a long drive with a loved one. Bonus points for trips to Cracker Barrel. We lucked out with great music, clear skies and even clearer roads. I had my first deep dish pizza at Gino's East, found out what they mean by the windy city, and I also rediscovered a favorite car game, which is saying something since I have a lot of 'em in my repertoire. It is called "sprocket" and works a little like "I spy."

{You find something that could be repeating (i.e. green signs, big rigs, bridges etc..) and then you keep it to yourself, saying "sprocket" every time you pass one in the car, and the other person has to guess. Fun for all ages!}

Rome

Happy New Year! I'm home from my little jaunt in Roma, and looking back on my pictures, it strikes me how beautiful everything was there. One of my favorite stops was the Villa Farnesina  where our friend and tour guide explained that to the Romans, too much is never enough, decor meant lotsa stuff on stuff as a way to delight the human eye. My kinda place. Gilded ceilings, ornate sculptures, it was all symmetry and mastery... consider my eye overjoyed!

Found hearts: luggage and bagel knife

Today I am off to Italy for a little vacation and New Years celebration. The mister was all ready and packed way ahead of schedule and I found this heart on his shoe bag, I swear he didn't even set it up like that! Since I don't know if I can post from abroad, I just wanted to thank all the readers out there for making my first year of blogging such a joy. This past January, I made a resolution to do something that was just for me, I thought that a daily journal of highlights I encountered throughout my day would be a good, positive influence on my life. And I was right, it seemed that by chronicling things I liked, more interesting things started to appear and it was hard to keep up, found hearts peeking out at me (and my readers) everywhere I go, reminding me that this universe truly is full of beautiful surprises. Lets see what 2010 has in store!
